Poem #35 for Gift Poem from Matthew Zimmerman

the moon looked down tonight

noticed he was being obscured by

passing clouds

dimming his light

and smiled at me even more determined

there were many of us out there this evening

waiting near abandoned buildings

alone

looking to the sky for company

on this lonely Christmas Day

and the moon

frustrated in his own right

connected eyes with me

winked after I saw his smile

and convinced me that

I matter

in this enormous world

and he sighed,

this friend of friends

waiting,

as I am,

to be noticed
