Poem #23 for Gift Poem from Pat Cannon

My mouth is dry

it tastes horrible and it is glued shut

i cannot stop yawning

and every time I do

my bleeding eyes lubricate themselves just a little bit more

My back is aching, all of it

the lower is sore

the middle keeps twitching

feels like a million mini mice clawing for cheese

my upper stings, pinches, burns

tangles of nerves twisting tissues and knotting muscles

I feel something in my throat,

something I hope to cough up soon

and my legs have just stopped moving

evolving beyond pain to complete shutdown

Everything hurts right now

and i feel each and every organ

throbbing in their own time

all out of rhythm

like a buzzing jazz quintet

5am

getting the last word in on the day

There is a hole being burroughed through the teeth in the

back of my mouth

and my head seems to always be cloudy, confused

It all feels like it is all falling apart

until i remember

the caterpillar’s body always dissolves

so that the body of a butterfly may grow

-af

Ah yes, I know those awful feelings and sensations of being in a dentist chair for ANY kind of dental work. Filling sucks! I love your last two lines! Indeed!!

    • Anthony says:

Thanks…Wasn’t quite about being at the dentist’s as it was in reference to life in general, but, poetry is all about interpretation, so, I LOVE YOUR COMMENT!!!!!

  • Pat CANNON says:

Ant, Thanks for helping me see a goal thru the aches – physical and emotional. Can’t wait to stop crawling and start flying. xxoo,p
