what i would like to say

Poem #123 for Char Marie

What I would really like to say

is that I enjoy beer in the afternoon

while I write and stare out over the

Main Streets of America

in different cities

and watch

how everyone scurries all the same

in every direction, every state;

a sleepless battle to obtain things

to live a good life

to try to find meaning and excel in the success

of solving all of life’s quizicalness;

that whether I am sober missing life

as days fly by

or drunk

looking into life too deeply for too long

we do as we do to keep it all balanced

What I would really like to say

is that people take love too seriously

rather than cherish it

when it comes how it comes however it appears;

that, regardless the length of the moment

it will hurt

all the same

just as deeply

when it comes to an end and the winter sets in

to make ready again your heart to love again

but that should not prevent us from still

loving

without logic reason rules or expectation;

stop protecting yourself

and trust in your strength

And what I would really like to say is

quit your job

take your arm and sweep it across the desk of your life

and throw all that shit to the floor

stare into the new emptiness

open the imaginary catalog we all had as children

and choose

anything you would like to do

not the mask or the game;

You will have no choice but to trust yourself

watching everyone lose their trust in you

but hang on to that cliff

even if you have one damn finger left holding on

and you feel the bone tearing away from the skin

I cannot say what happens next

that is a surprise for only you to know
