Poem #29 for Gift Poem from Matthew Zimmerman

I have lost sight of the person

Couches and planes

all around this country

are the homes I never felt comfortable in

growing up

which I never really did

Another state

four hours difference

although the time

the proverbial now

is more accurate than the then

I was convinced was all there was

and all this only two days ago

Time ages us with every submissive choice

years pass trying to justify

lack of motivation

our fear of our success

both existing and ending

It all becomes so much

when I think of all the people in space

feeling like they live within the same

laws of time

as I do yet watch years on earth pass by

in minutes…

just helplessly watch

I have to force myself to pause

to take breathes, at least one

in order to remind myself

I am not an apparition

reality is subjective

and I am water;

a stream carving a path

hoping to find the ocean

af
