We are smarter than we give ourselves credit for.

We often forget that we are animals
the danger in this mishap being, therefore,
that we neglect to trust that stored in our genome,
our most prized asset, over logic and compassion,
is instinct.

Instinct, not intelligence, keeps us alive,
allows all species to evolve.
Instinct, not logic, allows for the best decision.
Instinct, not a compass, directs us,
informs us.

Instinct tells us when it is time to say goodbye
to whatever it is that is necessary to leave behind.
Often we adhere more to our commitments
than our instincts
value indiscretion and public image
over private necessity
usually care more about the feelings of others
disinterested in rocking the boat
worship order
rather than instinctually live in a way that
will not only be what is perfectly best for ourselves,
but also is far healthier than any disruption we might cause.

We know people need to die
but refuse to say goodbye
We know couples grow apart
but refuse to say goodbye
We know blood can become tainted
but refuse to say goodbye
We know the life we lead may become unnatural
but refuse to say goodbye

There is a difference between weakness
lack of integrity
immature impulses
and our true basic instincts.

Quiet the voices both in your head and your ears
and feel,
do not listen…

we are sharper than we give ourselves credit for,
and an instinct knows no way to steer its animal incorrectly.
