leaves falling

Poem #260 for Joanne Ruocco

I stand here listening to leaves falling

one by one

I hear the wind detach them

I hear their flight this evening
floating to the ground
uninterrupted

This calm evening, alone
I hear a raindrop’s footstep on crisp leaves

I keep my eyes straight
the rest of my senses open
meditating, listening
to leaves in the Fall
doing just that
in these sacred woods

af

(written in little notebook, noticing now what I never noticed before)
