Poem #30 for Gift Poem from Matthew Zimmerman

Judgments sail through the American sky

like the eagle we chose to represent us

wide-spanned and justified

and too proud

even for a vulture

It is the three-hundred count cotton

stretching the fabric of our independence

because we can

and we will

so therefore we should

at least that is how the story goes

of America
