stay inspired, stranger

Poem #67 for David DePerro

Do not listen to the voices

external, internal, omnipotent or otherwise

They are gnats nipping at your neocortex

casting shadows on the light you were meant to share;

A dull drone silencing the brilliance you were meant

to proclaim from the edge of this land

you now find yourself at

No one understands you;

I know this, beautiful stranger.

Your skin constricts the bulbous passion that is your soul

making you an outcast within your own mind

and this world, this society, this city of superficial dreams

has no place for an artist who draws inspiration

from love

from the forlorn nonconformist

from the uncool, uncouth lower castes of acceptance

I do not know you

and care not whether what you create is “good”.

You are human,

your thoughts original

and your intentions pure

Please

I beg of you

stranger of strangers

Do not listen to them…

Life is but a dream…

…So dream

af

(written with pen on paper)

§ One Response to stay inspired, stranger

  • I met David randomly at a coffee shop in Venice. He is a struggling filmmaker and the name of the project peaked his interest. We stopped to talk with each other for about 10 minutes and he gave me a dollar to write something to inspire him. I never heard back from him, but, I hope he’s doing well out there and that I was able to inspire him…just a little.
