Poem #76 for Gift Poem from Michelle Linak to Mom & Dad Linak

I walked in a Robert Frost poem today

traveling through frozen mud in the corner of this country

cutting my way around and up a strange little hill;

The temperature was winter

the sun warm, dedicated when it was permitted

when the trees gave it space to shine on

I was wandering these woods with a new friend

being led by the most jovial of canines;

ugly as they come but faithful far beyond my own capabilities

My legs began to ache

my fingertips turned dark cherry red

when we turned yet another corner for yet another ascension

and it appeared

It was cinematic

fresh paint on a canvas

a masterpiece of natural creation

The threshold was stark…

the frozen, hibernating tundra of the winter forest

spliced with such abrupt intensity

that the world ended and I instantly took a step into

what was the most perfect poem ever created

Everything was covered with a delicate layer of snow

birds dancing overhead

hollyberries so vibrant and plump that if they were to burst

I imagine the woods would fill

with the symphony of muses

We laid the first footsteps on this freshly painted path

but what we left was a trail of wanderlust dreams

of the lonely pilgrims of time

While we walked

I felt a warm embrace placed inside my soul

a kiss from a faiery calming my anxiety

a whispered promise that I would never be alone again

And as we approached the closing lines of

this ode to the beautiful nymph of nature

glancing back into the darkness of the world from

which we just escaped from,

I understood I had just received a most precious omen

…and that has made all the difference
